The Newburg Fire Department purchased it’s first RESCUE TRUCK (Ambulance) in November of 1958 thus putting the Newburg Fire Department in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) business. In the early days of EMS, ambulance attendants were trained in first aid taught by the Red Cross. There were no advanced life saving skills, they placed you on a cot and drove you to the hospital as fast as possible and then unloaded you from the cot at the hospital for medical attention. In 1970 The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) was established, following this, national training curricula for EMTs and paramedics was developed and implemented. Today the Newburg Fire Department has 20 EMTs that serve the Village of Newburg, Towns of Trenton, Saukville, and parts of Farmington equaling approximately 70 square miles.
